Kraft Belvita Breakfast Biscuits - cranberry review

I was lucky enough to be sent a big box of Belvita Breakfast Biscuits in their new cranberry flavour. So I think it's the perfect post to change it up without reviewing a cafe. Of course if I had the luxury to go out to breakfast every morning, I would, but who does? So on a normal weekdays sometimes we all need a quicker option like biscuits on the go.

Upon opening the box the six individually wrapped packets of biscuits give off a distinct sugary cranberry smell that was definitely appealing. The biscuits themselves are thinner than they appear in the picture, with four in each packet. The size on the front is practically to scale though. Overall I would prefer two thicker ones as I found they crumbled a little bit and snapped really easily. Seeing as these are great for eating on the run, you're bound to get some crumbs in your car or on your lap.

The cranberry smell is continuous the whole time, eating biscuit after biscuit, but as it's the showcase of the breakfast snack, I expected more. I absolutely love something with dried fruit where it breaks up the textures with a tasty, small amount of chewy goodness - that's what these lacked. It's as though the cranberry pieces are chopped too small and are sparse.

For breakfast this flavour may be a little too sweet for me personally, but loads of people have a sweet tooth and that would satisfy them, they have 9.6g sugar per serving, about the same as a muesli bar but contain 22g of wholegrains which is great.

The really good thing about them?
1. You can slip a packet in your handbag (or pocket, men!) easily without taking up space
2.They fill you up. These little biscuits satisfy you enough to start the morning (after a cup of tea of course)
3. They state they are suitable for vegetarians

Most people don't have the luxury of sitting down to eat breakfast every morning and end up completely skipping it, which we all know is a real no-no. I'm lucky enough to be able to have something to eat at my desk at work, but a lot of people wouldn't, especially working outdoors. This is where belvita breakfast biscuits shine. I feel these are great to have in your cupboard just in case you're rushing out and are good for you with five different wholegrains, low in GI, rich in cereals and are a source of fibre.

I'm interested to try their five different flavours; Honey & Nut with choc chip, Milk & Cereals, Crunchy Oats, and Fruit & Fibre. I really have enjoyed having a box of these when I am running late some days, I'd suggest you try them out - especially busy mums!

Source Foods, Highgate

A breakfast date is always the best way to start a Sunday, even if you've had no sleep! I was so excited to see my good friend Clare and it's a tradition of ours to always meet up for breakfast.

Hunting around for something new, I stumbled upon Source Foods in Highgate. As a vegetarian finding a cafe that is sustainable, vegan friendly and sources fresh local, organic, free range produce is pure heaven! It's also somewhere that I want to support and want everyone else to as well!

Lucky for me their food was a delight on top of all the great things they do and there's also loads of gluten free options.

I ordered the Spinach Feta Scramble ($17) and a berry smoothie ($6.50). The eggs were light and fluffy  with a good amount of feta that didn't make them too salty, just right and added that little something extra. I'm a huge spinach fan, cooked, uncooked, english or baby and I loved how it was slightly cooked and put on top rather than mixed through the eggs, it had a good irony taste which I definitely enjoy. All this comes with two pieces of toast and left me well and truly satisfied especially once I devoured my smoothie.

The staff were super lovely and even though they did accidentally bring out a chocolate smoothie (which looked great but not what I had in mind with my breakfast), they returned with my berry one as soon as it was made and it was certainly worth the wait.

Clare ordered the regular scrambled eggs ($12.50), which looked just as tasty and a big serve along with a vanilla smoothie which she said was so yummy.

We both adored how they served them in jars with a straw, it looked really cute and suited the cafe. It was really easy to get a seat, we got there at 9.30am and it didn't get too busy, most of the seats were taken by the time we were eating but it isn't a cafe where they squash in a million tables and chairs to get more customers, something that gets a big tick from me!

Check out their website or just pop in because I know you won't regret it! I think I may just try out their wraps for lunch one day and I know I'll be back for breakfast again soon.

White Salt, Sorrento

Even though it is a local, I've always steered away from going to White Salt for breakfast, simply because I know how expensive the dinners are. But alas, the aim to head to Voyage was disrupted due to the fact they sat us, gave us menus, walked back with water then decided to tell us they aren't serving any of the breakfast  menu due to renovations... extremely irritating considering they could have told us that as we walked in? So, instead of driving off we decided to at least look at the White Salt menu and were pleasantly surprised at the resonable price.

As we walked in we were welcomed by friendly staff, given a nice seat and told of the free toast bar. YES, FREE TOAST! Basically, different New Norcia breads are laid out - even a beautiful fruit and nut bread - on a table at the back of the restaurant where you can go and make your own toast, as much as you want and there was also free filter coffee... no cups though?

D decided on his staple poached eggs on toast and a side of hashbrowns which came out beautifully cooked and looked lovely.

I chose to get the spring onion omelette which was filled with spring onion, tomato and cheddar cheese with a fresh rocket salad. This was without a doubt the biggest omelette I had ever seen, literally the size of the entire plate but it was flipped and there was no way I could finish - especially after grabbing a piece of toast from the toast bar. It was extremely delicious though, the eggs weren't overcooked and the freshness of the rocket was amazing. I am not a huge fan of tomatoes but they were chopped up to a perfect size and complemented the eggs well. I'm also not a massive fan of fried foods and the hasbrowns were a little oily for me but slightly different to the packet ones that you seem to get at most places so they were nice. If you get the omellete, don't order sides!

It was a rainy day, but I love nothing more than the beach in winter so sitting inside and watching the rain over the ocean made for a perfect morning at White Salt.

Sayers, Leederville

Oh there's no denying how much I adore Sayers. It's simply the cutest place with such incredible food and the presentation far exceeds any other cafe I have been to around Perth, so far. You really have to be lucky to get a spot on a Sunday morning, it's quite popular and I've had to dine elsewhere sometimes.

On this particular morning I was all about the museli. What I loved so much about it is it really tasted homemade. Chunky whole nuts scattered throughout, delicious seeds and oats and served with a jar of greek yoghurt & compote of blueberries and milk in its own old fashioned mini bottle!

Darryn had some perfectly poached eggs with a side of Sayer's beans and toasted ciabatta bread. Their toast could possibly be one of the best I've ever tasted and it's all finished off with a drizzle of some fine olive oil - which he loves, so that's a bonus!
If you haven't been, you're more than missing out - you're wasting your tastebuds!

Sayers, Leederville

I've been to Sayers quite a few times, with quite a few different friends and each time I have been beyond pleased with not only the quality and freshness of the food, but also the service.
It's a cute little cafe in Leederville hidden next to The Garden on 244 Carr Street, but just because it's off Oxford Street doesn't mean it's quiet. Everytime you head there, it's a gamble as to whether you will get a seat or not, but given that, I've never missed out.

Here Anthony got the wagyu beef sausage baked egg, oven roasted tomato, spring onion & cheddar open omelette, lemon scented rocket ($19)

I loved the rustic feel of it being served in a pan and although it was a bit of a rocket overkill for Ant, he really enjoyed it.

I had the most delicious meal of tomato & buffalo mozzarella tartlet, poached egg, rocket & spicy red pepper relish ($17.50)  I added an extra poached egg - because it was my birthday and I wanted to... The produce was so fresh which really made a difference to the taste, there was a little bit much of the cheese on the tart but the chutney and pesto worked wonders together and the eggs (free range of course!) were poached to perfection!

I enjoyed a delicious hot chocolate along with this meal which i would immediately hurry back for, it was served as warm milk with chocolate chips in a little side jug which once hit the milk melted into a delectable creamy, chocolatey taste. One of those little moments you like to savour...

The thing with Sayers is they change their menu all the time, so you can't get attached to a particular item. For months I was waiting for it to get a bit colder in order to try the cinnamon and vanilla porridge with rhubarb and ginger and now it is merely a menu memory.

I would without a doubt head back here!

The Beauty of Breakfast

There's something so seemingly delectable about a weekend breakfast. Cold, hot, hungover, energetic, hungry, peckish or simply for no other reason than being social, breakfast dates have a unique appeal without the intensity of any other meal. This blog is dedicated to the scrumptious finds (mostly around Perth) of the breakfast variety.  Now, I have been collecting my reviews for some time so be prepared for a beginning influx, then watch my blog settle to a once a week post.

Enjoy!
